10 second recap: At Waste Expo 2025, CITIBIN showcased three standout enclosures—each wrapped, locked, and designed to solve real urban waste problems. From our BasketPlus with rat-proof storage sidecar to compost bins in Boston to new access solutions, we showed how trash enclosures can be thoughtful, secure, and surprisingly stylish.
CITIBIN returned to the Waste Expo in Las Vegas the first week of May, where the world’s leading innovators in waste management came together to talk trash–literally. As a returning exhibitor, we were thrilled to reconnect with some familiar faces and meet new municipality teams, property managers, and other industry pros who care as much as we do about keeping cities clean, organized, and rat-free.
At each trade show where we exhibit, we use the opportunity to highlight some of our latest innovations. This year our booth featured three standout enclosures: our BasketPlus with storage sidecar, an enclosure for food scrap collection, and a Large-size enclosure for high volume trash containerization.
Let’s take a closer look at each of them.
We designed BasketPlus to be more than just a trash can, it’s a much-needed upgrade to the traditional wire baskets found on city street corners. You know the ones–often overflowing, surrounded by bags, and attracting unwanted attention from furry foes. BasketPlus keeps things cleaner and more controlled with an open main basket for public use, plus a secure storage sidecar–an enclosed, rat-proof compartment where full trash bags can be stored until pickup.
At Waste Expo, we showcased how the BasketPlus works up close. The door of the main bin features a square cam lock, while the sidecar is secured with a padlock– two popular access options for sanitation teams. BasketPlus was wrapped in NYC Parks branding, highlighting how CITIBIN enclosures can integrate seamlessly into a city’s streetscape.
Listen to what our COO, Frank Picarazzi, had to say about BasketPlus on TikTok and Instagram.
Food scrap collection is becoming a bigger priority for cities, especially with growing mandates around composting and separating waste streams. These programs need bins that are compact enough for sidewalks and public spaces, but durable, secure, and accessible enough to support consistent participation. CITIBIN’s Medium enclosure offers a streamlined solution for 45-55 gallon bins–an ideal size for food waste drop-off programs in dense urban environments. With a clean look and optional keypad locks for users, our enclosures help normalize composting as part of everyday city life.
At the Waste Expo, we featured the Medium enclosure as a composting unit, wrapped in a multilingual vinyl used in the City of Boston’s food waste drop-off program. The design was a hit with attendees as it clearly demonstrated how cities can pair clear signage with clean design to educate residents and promote participation. To demonstrate another way to lock CITIBIN, we outfitted the top door with a keypad lock, one of several access control options available for our enclosures.

The Large CITIBIN was designed with city agencies and multi-family buildings in mind, but is for anyone who needs a reliable, high-capacity solution for managing waste at scale. It’s perfectly sized to fit 65-96 gallon wheelie bins, but can also be used to store bagged trash directly. That flexibility is part of what makes CITIBIN different; it’s a modular, rat-proof alternative to the bulky one-size-fits-all garbage sheds on the market.
At Waste Expo, we featured our Large enclosure custom wrapped in Downtown Greensboro’s “Explore” graphics, showing once again how public-facing containerization bins can double as civic messaging. This unit was outfitted with a front door keypad lock, demonstrating how quick and easy it is for sanitation workers to access and manage trash collection in high-traffic areas.
Waste Expo 2025 gave us a chance to highlight our latest innovations and show how CITIBIN is redefining what public waste enclosures can be. From our modular designs to flexible locking options, our enclosures are built to solve real-world problems with durability, security and visual appeal.
One feature that really stood out at the show was our custom vinyl wraps. Whether for cities, parks, or business improvement districts, CITIBIN vinyl wraps turn utility into a messaging opportunity—for branding, public service announcements and events. As our founder Liz Picarazzi says in this video on Instagram and TikTok:
We’re excited to keep raising the bar for what waste containerization can look like. Until the next show, we’ll be here, fighting the good fight against rats and making trash look stylish.
