Let's face it, trash and recycling cans are eyesores. Whether you keep them in the garage or on the side of the house, a row of refuse cans does nothing for curb appeal. Here are some ideas to corral garbage, for your sake, and your neighbors'!

 Shrubs or trees

A few strategically placed shrubs or trees can hide cans, while adding more green to your yard. Arborvitae, pictured, are an evergreen upright shrub that make a great hedge. This is some highly practical landscaping!

Privacy Screen

Privacy screens are like a portable fence that you can use for whatever you want to conceal -- trash cans, air conditioners, untidy yard items.
If you're the DIY type, check out the build plans for a garbage can privacy screen from Homemade by Carmona. She always has inspiring ideas for the home!

Tall Planters

Tall planters can cordon off a trash and recycling area.
Planters are a great way to conceal cans while adding beautiful flowers or plants to an area that you associate with unpleasant trash.

Build a Trash Enclosure

If you like to build things, check out the many DIY plans for garbage enclosures, sheds, and cabinets available online.

The enclosure, pictured, from This Old House includes step-by-step instructions and a video.

Get a Trash Enclosure

There are many garbage and recycling enclosures available online and through direct-to-consumer brands like CITIBIN. Consider how many cans need to be enclosed, their size, and materials. Most enclosures are made from cedar, iron, or plastic.

CITIBIN garbage and recycling enclosures are constructed with powder-coated aluminum cabinets and clad with eco-friendly bamboo composite boards.

Given the business we're in, we see a lot of messy trash and dilapitated trash enclosures. When we replace them, we love to get before & after photos of the transformations.

Before & After: Metal Garbage Enclosures

Metal enclosures tend to have heavy doors and rust easily.

Before & After:  Wood Trash Enclosures

Wooden enclosures can warp and discolor.

Plastic enclosures often don't look much better than the trash cans they are concealing.

How would you like to hide your trash?

We are in the business of beautifying neighborhoods, one trash can at a time. If CITIBIN may be for you, please contact us for a free consultation and estimate.
